Shark’s Late Burst Proves Fruitless Against A Hungry Rovers Outfit

The new and improved Rovers ground proved to be a fitting location for an evenly matched dual against a keen Rovers side, that outplayed the Sea-siders in the first 20 minutes. Despite a two nil deficit at half time, of particular note an unfortunate hand ball penalty in the box in the 17th minute to slot the first Rover’s goal, Lennox fired up and started to play smart and hard football. Another goal by Rovers did not dint the Shark’s will to win, with Julie Cummings leading the way with a goal coming in the 55th minute, backed up by an equally impressive celebration back to the kick off…. then Cummings took the ball down the left side and crossed a perfect ball to Leah Mosley who connected in the 77th minute to take the score to 3-2. Lennox upped the ante in the last 20 to dominate possession led by an aggressive mid field with Kenny Brazendale controlling the middle and narrowly missing a long range shot which scorched the cross bar much to the delight of the spectators. Coach David Greiner was happy with the team’s never say die approach and did state that he may have underestimated the opposition, however he felt the efforts late in the game did present some opportunities to at least come away with a draw. Points on the day went to Julie C – 3, Thaya (Coggo) Evenden - 2 & Kendle (Kenny) Brazendale - 1.  Commendable mention to Katie Hanna, Leah Mosley, Ella McCrossin & Alysia Cook and Noni ‘the Goal Keeper’ who puts her body on the line on a weekly basis. Stay tuned…Lennox Sharks are by no means done and dusted, it is only early days in the competition.

Second’s Bite Back…After finding themselves down 2 – 0 early in the game, Second  Division fought back to a 4 – 2 victory. Young attacker Abby Clarke saved the day with a hat trick whilst a fourth goal was scored by Grace Fuller.
Football newcomer, Nicky Lucy-Davies, impressed team mates as she played an integral part in at least two of Lennox Head’s goals. The team’s new found confidence will serve them well as they take on Bangalow next weekend…Lisa Newton reporting for Selina Atkinson, reporting for LHFC!
