Goonellabah Glory Denied By Sharks Attack

The premier women’s team travelled to Goonellabah on May 23 with a bare eleven and successfully overcame the yellow and black to win 4 to Nil. The Sharks looked solid from the onset, using the width of the field and working well to hold off any attack that came their way led by the defensive efforts of Ella McCrossin, Jodie Davis and Coggo (The D-Team). Indeed, strikers Chloe Hamilton and Abi Allardyce were instrumental in delivering an early lead with Hamilton using her shape well to slot a fantastic goal after 15 minutes and Allardyce taking charge with a well deserved goal at the 18 minute mark. Lennox lost key striker Abbey Allardyce late in the first half and with no reserves, kept the momentum throughout the match by working the ball around the field.  Mel Campbell converted in the 60th minute to take the game to a 3 nil deficit. Kenny worked well with lone striker Chloe to bust the Goonellabah defence on numerous occasions which led to a Julie Cumming special on the 71st minute mark. Katie Hannah was instrumental in the midfield, supported by Jodie Davis in the back line. Coach David Greiner believed the centre midfield combination worked well to filter the attack through the channels of Campbell and Cumming, whilst Ella McCrossin played her usual stalwart best to keep Goonellabah’s key attacker at sixes & sevens, by not allowing her any quality ball time.  Resident goal keeper – Noni McPherson made a cameo in the front line and came close to scoring a scorcher late in the second half. It was a fantastic team effort whereby all players dug deep to secure the points for round 7. Player points  3 - Chloe Hamilton,  2 - Selina Atkinson and 1 - Ella McCrossin.
