Overview
If you’re thinking about becoming a coach, this page will give you an idea of what’s involved and the level of commitment required. a coach will typically:
- Organise a weekly training session that runs for between 45 mins and 1.5 hours;
- Attend team matches (c. 1hr + travel time); and
- Manage all team personnel and communications, including obtaining information from the club and distributing tom players/parents.
Who coaches?
Generally one or more parent of a team’s players coach the team. Two coaches is ideal as this makes allowances for sickness, holidays and work committments. Coaches are parents or volunteers just helping kids have fun and improve their coordination and motor skills. you don’t need to have played football before as there are many simple training exercises that help players without you needing to be a football star!
We welcome people with football and/or coaching experience to help and become part of the club. Coaches are required to complete a working with children form.
What help is available?
You’ll find some resources to help you on this website, as well as links to external websites that provide fee training drills and sessions. also, existing coaches were all new coaches once upon a time and are generally happy to give you some pointers to get you started.
Coaches are encouraged to become accredited but this this is not essential. Courses take c.8 hours and are held at a variety of times and locations throughout the year and are sometimes split into shorter sessions. The club may fund coaches to attend a number of available courses. courses are run through the Football Federation Australia (FFA), and details of the courses can be obtained by clicking here.
